Restaurant Review: Bouchon Bistro, Las Vegas

11 Dec

About a month ago, we took our first trip in about a year and a half. The trip wasn’t to any far away lands, but just about an hour and a half away, to Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the last few years, Las Vegas went from being a sin city where gambling and maybe a show were the main attractions. These days however, on top of the gambling and the shows…the restaurant business has flourished in Las Vegas. The choices are endless, and the food is incredible. And when you’re there for just a few days, you really want to make the best of it, and try as many restaurants as possible.

I am happy to report that we got a chance to try a few different restaurants. One of which I’ve been looking forward to trying for a very long time. This would be Bouchon Bistro. Overall I give it five stars. Our experience there, was amazing. Thanks to the resourcefulness of our friends, our wait was relatively short (Bouchon doesn’t take reservations for brunch).

Assorted pastries, compliments of the Chef, were a pretty great added bonus…

…yummy beignets and croissants by the way. The bread was fresh, and still warm when served to us.

The brunch menu isn’t very big, but has enough selections. Here are some of the dishes we enjoyed.

Salmon Baguette, Omelette du Jour, Bouchon French Toast

Just as an FYI, the bacon served was just the way I like it, perfectly crisp but not crumbly or burned.

And last but certainly not least (and not in the order served), is the Bouchon Bloody Mary.

It was the perfect Bloody Mary, not too spicy, not too strong. A well balanced alcoholic Brunch beverage.

So, next time you’re in Las Vegas, I encourage to take the time to enjoy Brunch (the best meal of the day) at the Bouchon Bistro

Strawberry-Goat Cheese Bruschetta

20 Apr

Last week my boss shared with me a great recipe for strawberry goat cheese bruschetta. I have to say this is one of the few times that I didn’t lose any time, and on the way home stopped by the store and picked up all the ingredients needed for this amazing appetizer. In fact I made the dish that very same night, when I got home. The strawberry goat cheese bruschetta was the main meal for me that night.

This appetizer is mouth watering (exactly the sensation I experienced when I first laid eyes on it). And why not? All the ingredients individual and together are delicious. So drool no longer, instead take 20 minutes to make the Strawberry Goat Cheese Bruschetta from the Better Homes and Gardens website.

Simple Appetizer

10 Dec

Picture this…You find out last minute that you’re going to host a small get together. What’s the first thing that goes through your mind? I don’t know about you, but for me the first thought is “What will I put on the table?”. Well, today I present you with an easy solution. Granted this dish might have to grow on some. But with my Russian background this appetizer is just mouth watering to me.

I won’t hold you in suspense any longer. I present to you sprats crostini!
Sprats-Crostini

For those of you that might not be familiar with sprats, they are smoked sardines in oil. I generally purchase my sprats in Russian grocery stores. However, as I just found out, you could purchase the exact same Smoked Riga Sprats on Amazon.

These little poppies are the perfect appetizer sandwiches. Here is what you will need to prepare a plate full:

Ingredients:
Baguette
1 can of sprats
Lemon slices (cut into halves)
Garlic cloves

Cut baguette into slices, place on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes, or until golden. Cut the edge off a clove of garlic. Once the baguette slices are toasty, rub each slice with the cut part of the garlic clove. Place one sprat and one half circle of lemon on each garlic rubbed baguette slice.

Minis

08 Sep

Finally my trusty sidekick, Vika, and I got together for the first of many cooking sessions. Where Vika did all of the cooking and I did most of the tasting and the photo taking. As far tasting goes, these minis were fabulous. As far as photos go, judge for yourself…
Bruschetta
Now to describe what’s what and how these minis were created. We’ll go in order of preparation.

First Vika started with salmon minis.
Salmon-Bites
Key ingredients:
1. European whole grain bread (can be found at Trader Joe’s)
2. Salmon
3. Creme fraiche
4. Chives
Top the bread with slices of salmon, creme fraiche and diced chives. Once plated, just serve.

Now for the Bruschetta minis

Bruschetta

To create these tasty minis you will need the following ingredients and will need to take the following steps:
1. Tomatoes (Vika used cherry and pear tomatoes)
2. Fresh Basil
3. Olive Oil
4. Sun-dried tomatoes
5. Baguette
Cut up the baguette and toast slices of baguette in the oven. In the mean time, dice the fresh tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes and basil. Mix together with olive oil. Top the toasted baguette slices with the tomato mixture and serve.

Try these minis and they’ll fly off the plate in the blink of an eye.

Healthy Snack

01 Sep

On Sunday I decided to make a healthy snack. I gave it some thought and here is what I came up with…
Goat Cheese Toasties with Arugula Salad
…an Arugula salad with Goat Cheese Toasties.

To create this all you’ll need is a baguette, cut up into slices, some beaten eggs and garlic powder. Dip the baguette slices in beaten eggs (mixed with garlic powder) and bake for 10-15 minutes at 325F.

To create the lovely salad, you’ll need some arugula leaves, tomatoes (cherry, pear, and/or grape), cucumbers and Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing.

Cut up the vegetables, toss with the Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing and serve with the toasties, topped with goat cheese.

Hope you enjoy! I can tell you I did!
